HOCKENHEIM, GARA 2 - PRIMA VITTORIA PER L'INDIANO KARUN CHANDHOK

20 lug 2008 (22:30) :
Karun Chandhok ended a run of miserable Sunday luck to win this morning’s GP2 Series sprint race at Hockenheim.

The Indian was beaten away from pole position, but he had to wait only until the third lap to assume the lead after passing Lucas di Grassi (Campos) as they exited the hairpin. From then on he controlled the pace and resisted an extended period of pressure from Andreas Zuber (Piquet Sports) to score the second win of his GP2 career.

By the end of the race the top two had to keep a wary eye on the second iSport Dallara of Bruno Senna, who put in a stirring recovery drive after a slow start left him down in eighth place at the end of the opening lap. He eventually finished third, just 1.274s behind his team-mate.

Karun Chandhok :“That’s the first time I have scored points on a Sunday this year – and there couldn’t have been a better way to do it. I didn’t get a great start. The team fitted a new clutch overnight and I just didn’t manage to find the sweet spot. I got far too much wheelspin off the line, but I wasn’t too worried because I saw yesterday that Lucas di Grassi wears his tyres harder than we do – he was already starting to get sideways on the second lap. I sold him a nice dummy at the hairpin next time around and that was that. It was a tough race, because I had a lot of pressure from Zuber, and in the later stages Bruno was catching both of us. I just focused on my own race, though, and it feels fantastic to win again. I’d also like to thank iSport – it’s a great team and I really enjoy working with everyone here.”

Così all'arrivo di Gara 2:

HOCKENHEIM - PANTANO SIGLA LA SUA SECONDA POLE STAGIONALE

18 lug 2008 (19:42) :
Today at Hockenheim Giorgio Pantano took his second pole position of the season for Racing Engineering.

Giorgio's pole has its origins in the free practice session, when the Italian driver and the Racing Engineering technical staff found the basis of an ideal setup for the car in qualifying. With free practice starting on a damp track that was drying as the minutes went by, the main focus was on running and setting up the car for the crucial half an hour where the grid was to be decided. Pantano was third at the end of the free practice and had a very clear picture of the way to go to get the perfect car for qualifying session.

The work done in the morning really paid off and the Repsol and Telefónica backed Dallara driven by Pantano was amongst the fastest from the start of qualifying, scoring a 1:23:343 at his first attempt that put him straight to the top. As the session continued the track was getting quicker and laptimes were improving but the Racing Engineering driver settled the battle for pole position when he returned to the track, improving his previous time by more than 1.5 seconds, setting a 1:21:650 that none of his rivals could reach in the remaining ten minutes still left to the end of the session. With this new pole, the second of the season, Pantano increases his advantage at the top of the GP2 series standings and gains for himself the best position to fight for victory in tomorrow’s Feature Race on the German track.

With Giorgio in pole and Javi well placed, the outlook for the Spanish team is good for the Feature Race, due tomorrow afternoon. Another win seems to be perfectly within reach for Giorgio while Javi will be looking for his best result of the season so far.

Alfonso de Orleans Borbón (team principal): "Once again Giorgio has done an amazing job, the prospects are good for tomorrow. I am very happy for Javi as well, luckily the engine problem we had on his car's engine was just a loose pipe, which we solved easily for qualifying. Well done to both drivers and a great job by the whole team, but let's keep our heads cool for tomorrow's race."

Giorgio Pantano (driver car 12): "Everything went very well. We understood from free practice what we needed to improve for qualifying. We did the job and I think we did a perfect lap, the car was perfect and I was almost perfect. I have to say thanks to the team as they worked hard to prepare the car for qualifying."

Così al via di Gara 1:

1. Giorgio Pantano - Racing Engineering - 1'21.650
2.
SILVERSTONE, GARA 2 - BRUNO SENNA DOMINA SOTTO LA PIOGGIA

06 lug 2008 (21:05) :
Sport racer Bruno Senna scored a textbook victory in this morning’s rain-hit GP2 Series sprint at Silverstone. From third on the grid, the Brazilian worked his way into the lead on the opening lap as he adapted quickly to the treacherous conditions.

He didn’t put a foot wrong throughout the 24 laps, even when rain became torrential halfway through the race. He went on to take a comfortable win, his second of the campaign, and closed the gap to championship leader Giorgio Pantano, who finished third.

Bruno Senna: “Conditions were obviously quite difficult, but from where I was sitting everything felt reasonably straightforward. Once I’d got into the lead I took things fairly easy, although I started to push harder when Lucas di Grassi closed in a little. I was able to pull away from him without any problem and after that I just settled into a rhythm – I know Silverstone very well and there was no point pushing too hard when I didn’t have to.There were all sorts of incidents going on – blue flags, yellow flags and so on – but none of them caused me any real worries. The team had done such a good job setting up the car that I was able to put it almost anywhere I wanted on the circuit.”

Così all'arrivo di Gara 2:

1.
SILVERSTONE - PANTANO VINCE GARA 1 E RAFFORZA LA SUA LEADERSHIP IN CAMPIONATO

05 lug 2008 (21:41) :
Giorgio Pantano put in a stunning performance in today’s Feature Race at Silverstone, the Italian driver showing a wonderful combination of speed and intelligence as he increased his lead in the Drivers Championship.

Fortunately for all the teams the threatened rain held off and the race started under blue skies as all the drivers made a clean start to the 36 lap Feature Race. Giorgio made a great getaway from 5th on the grid and immediately gained a place as a slow starting Grosjean caused Zuber to lift and the Racing Engineering driver took immediate advantage of the situation. On the third lap Giorgio gained another place as leader Senna made a mistake at Stowe and ran wide loosing several places.

Giorgio now began a very entertaining battle with his championship rival Grosjean as the two cars fought hard for second place and two soon became three as the recovering Senna joined in.

The leaders were all on a similar pitstop strategy and Giorgio stopped on lap 16, a lap after Grosjean, resuming once again hard on the gearbox of the French ART driver. Giorgio now began to attack Grosjean all round the circuit as the Repsol/Telefónica supported Dallara looked for a way to pass, the Italian giving every sign that he had the faster car. Unfortunately an abandoned car at Vale meant yellow flags and this was one of the areas where Giorgio was looking to pass. Suddenly as the two cars entered Abbey Grosjean left a small gap, it was barely a car wide but Giorgio dived down the inside and the two cars rubbed wheels but the Racing Engineering car was up to second.

Giorgio was now 3.7 seconds behind leader di Grassi but he quickly began to close the gap and on lap 30, as the cars exited Stowe, Giorgio was right behind di Grassi and as the cars entered Club Giorgio feinted to the left and as di Grassi covered the move Giorgio darted to the right and took the lead. The contest was finished and over the remaining handful of laps Giorgio pulled away to a confident four second victory.

For tomorrow’s Sprint Race Giorgio will start from 8th on the reversed grid and will be looking to further improve his 13 point lead over Senna. Once again Racing Engineering showed how competitive their cars are and once again the Spanish team saw both of their cars finished the race.

Alfonso de Orleans Borbón (team principal): "Giorgio was absolutely fantastic, I think this was his best race to date. The whole team was able to make everything work absolutely perfectly and I want to thank every single team member for the effort and work they have been putting into the team this season so far. This is a team effort of everyone."

Giorgio Pantano (driver car 12): "Everything was wonderful today and I have to especially say thank you to the team for the car I had in this race and the fast pit stop.
04 lug 2008 (21:41) :
For the second consecutive GP2 Series feature race, Bruno Senna has qualified his iSport Dallara on pole position. The Brazilian was the only driver to dip below the 1m 27s barrier in today’s 30-minute qualifying session and he beat closest rival Romain Grosjean (ART) by 0.122s.

Bruno Senna: “I crashed at the end of my pole position lap in Magny-Cours two weeks ago and promised I’d do the job properly here, by keeping all four wheels on. I kept my word! The car wasn’t handling perfectly during this morning’s free practice session, but iSport is a fantastic team and knew exactly what to do.
MAGNY-COURS, GARA 2: PRIMA VITTORIA DI SEBASTIEN BUEMI

22 giu 2008 (22:16) :
Sébastien Buemi headed team-mate Yelmer Buurman across the line as Trust Team Arden scored its first GP2 Series win of the campaign in Sunday morning’s sprint race at Magny-Cours. The race began in tricky conditions, with the track wet in the wake of early-morning showers, but Buemi and Buurman were among the minority in that they opted to start the race on slick Bridgestone tyres. It was the right move, though, and they swept through the field as wet-shod rivals pitted for dry rubber. By lap nine they were running first and second, with Buurman ahead, and the order remained unchanged until lap 22 of 28, when Buemi pulled alongside as they approached the Adelaide hairpin. The Swiss driver made the move stick and went on to finish 6.6s clear of his team-mate.

Sébastien Buemi: “It was a difficult race on slicks, but my engineer made the right decision. I wanted to start on wets, so I’m grateful to him for his advice. I made a good start and passed many cars, but then slowed a little because I was on slicks. I pushed and pushed to get the slicks working and gradually moved up to third, then second… I couldn’t have driven any faster if I’d stolen the car! Yelmer was very quick, but I started to catch him as the circuit dried. I really wanted to win and eventually managed to draw alongside him on the run to the hairpin. A win, some solid points and third place in the championship… It has been a great day.”

Così all'arrivo di Gara 2:

1.
MAGNY COURS - SECONDO SUCCESSO STAGIONALE PER GIORGIO PANTANO

21 giu 2008 (23:13) :
Giorgio Pantano did everything expected of him by winning today’s Feature Race and taking the fastest lap on the day when he became the most experienced driver in GP2. Giorgio’s confident race performance also puts him in a clear first place at the top of the Drivers Championship.

Giorgio made a great start passing Grosjean as the cars left the grid and slotting the Repsol/Telefónica backed Racing Engineering Dallara into second spot behind the pole-sitter Senna. At the end of the opening lap Giorgio was right on the tail of Senna as the two cars crossed the line just 0.6 seconds apart with Grosjean just behind in third. Over the next few laps the two leaders were very evenly matched with the gap constantly less than a second and by lap 8 they had dropped Grosjean who was now 2.8 seconds behind.

Lap 18 saw both Giorgio and Senna make their mandatory pit stops, Giorgio lost a place to Grosjean who had stopped a couple of laps earlier but he was quickly on the tail of the French driver. On the next lap Grosjean passed Senna and Giorgio closed in on both drivers as he looked for an opportunity to pass. Suddenly on lap 21 Senna slowed dramatically with clutch problems and Giorgio quickly moved into second place behind Grosjean. The gap between first and second was steady at around a second but as the cars were on their 33rd lap Grosjean suddenly slowed with mechanical problems and Giorgio took the lead.

With just 8 laps left to run, and a nine second lead over di Grassi, Giorgio took it easy over the remaing laps to score a great win for himself and Racing Engineering as once again the Spanish team showed what a competitive force they are this year.

Giorgio will start tomorrow’s Sprint Race from 8th place on the reversed grid and will be looking to make up as many places as possible to consolidate his Championship lead.

Alfonso de Orleans Borbón (team principal): "An absolutely fantastic job from Giorgio and the best way to conclude his 100th race, I think we might celebrate this tonight. A fantastic job also from all the boys, it is the reliability of our cars that helps us to lead Driver Championship and to second in the Team Championship. A big thank you to everyone in the team."

Giorgio Pantano (driver car 12): “Everything went perfect for me today. The car, the team everything was great. We have a fast car and unfortunately didn't start on pole. But we had some luck that Senna and Grosjean had problems with their cars and I decided then to be safe with the car and get to end.
MAGNY COURS - SENNA PROTAGONISTA: PRIMA LA POLE, POI L'INCIDENTE

21 giu 2008 (00:01) :
Senna takes pole, despite crashing as he crosses the line.

Bruno Senna recorded iSport’s first pole position of the campaign – and the first of his GP2 Series career – during today’s qualifying session at Magny-Cours, France.

It was not, however, a conventional pole lap. The Brazilian, who swept into the championship lead in Monaco last month, crashed as he completed a 1m 25.250s lap towards the end of the half-hour session. He was in mid-accident as he crossed the finishing line, but his time was still good enough to put him at the head of the 26-car field.

Bruno Senna: “I’m obviously delighted to take pole, but that wasn’t quite how I’d planned to do it. The car was really well balanced today – perfect, in fact – but every time I tried to put a lap together I was delayed by traffic. When it came to my final run I just gave it everything I had and, unfortunately, the car got away from me at the final chicane. It was my last chance to set a really good time and the incident was just one of those things. The car felt absolutely fantastic and I’m now in a perfect position to capitalise on that.”

Così al via:

1. Bruno Senna - iSport International - 1'22.250
2.
